Characters: Tonks, Ginny, Hermione, Molly
Word Count: 732
Rating: PG
Warnings: Gen, Snark, unbetaed
A/N: I speak for no one, I represent nothing. Just had to get a bit of snark out of my system.
Nymphadora Tonks
Whether pregnancy was intentional or not is really not the point is it? That’s between Remus and I. The fact that we love each other should be enough.
I watched the man who fights against evil, inside and out, and knows pain and sorrow beyond measure of what most people experience, weep with pride and happiness when he held our baby boy in his arms. I saw pure joy in his eyes for may be the only time in his life.
I gave him that.
I created that tiny person and no amount of Dark Wizard catching can equal that feeling of achievement and no one can make me regret it.
We will have to fight for our freedom before its over and how could I not do so as well? This isn’t some distant goblin war in a far away land, in a forgotten time; our enemies are knocking down the doors. They are hunting us and killing us. Every able wand will be needed and I will do my part to ensure that Teddy has a peaceful world to live.
If anyone thinks that’s weak, they can bugger off.
Ginny Weasley (Potter)
So being a mother is a waste of talent and magical power, is it? Isn’t that a charming sentiment? I suppose by that notion, only dimwitted and weak women should be mothers then, hm?
Or perhaps it would be okay if I only have one or two children, so long as I have a really important career as well. Well I’ll be sure that my children understand they are only as important to me as playing Quidditch.
I wonder if people think I’m being oppressed into marrying Harry Potter? That he somehow coerces me to bear his children – excuse me while I have a laugh.
Maybe there is no explaining it to people. It’ll be my gain and no amount of playing Quidditch could replace it.
Hermione Granger (Weasley)
Everyone wants to know what I’m going to do with my life.
Well, I’m going to do as much as I can, of course. I’d like to see somebody try and stop me. And you know what else? I’m going to have Ron Weasley’s babies. If there was ever a creature on earth that must procreate, it’s Ronald Weasley. I suppose I am a little biased, I’ve been in love with him half my life. Far too many people underestimate how amazing he is, but I’ve always known.
Not once in my life has anyone proposed that I couldn’t do or be in this world because I am a woman. Yet the moment I want to become a mother, I have somehow let womanhood down and debased myself for the sake of ‘tradition’?
… Maybe there’s more work to be done with human rights than I thought.
I wonder; will Ron ever be criticized for choosing to be a father?
Molly Weasley
It seems to me that the women who teach at Hogwarts are respected for doing their jobs. Education is a noble profession, isn’t that what they say? So I suppose teaching seven children how to read and write counts for nothing? Preparing them to leave our home and begin their education didn’t happen by magic alone. I may have made lots of mistakes over the years, goodness knows I’m not a perfect woman, but each and every one of my children makes this world a better place and it wasn’t the garden gnomes that raised them!
So many brave witches and wizards; Nymphadora, Remus, Kingsley, Alastor, Albus – yes even Dumbledore himself has sat at my table. They each knew they were safe while eating my treacle tart. They also knew they’d get an earful of mother’s advice while they were there. … I’d like to think they appreciated that.
I nurtured them all and if you ask me, the world would be better off if people respected a mother’s nurturing a little more. We might not be in this mess at all if You-Know-Who’s mother had cared for the boy more than she cared for herself.
And if I’m forced into this fight myself, then we’ll just see if those years of washing and cooking affect my ability to protect my family.
